Film Assessment - English

SEXXXY 1
In ‘The Power of One’ sound effects were used effectively.
We see this when the afrikaners were killing P.K’s chicken.
This makes the audience feel worried for the chicken.
The director’s purpose was to make the scene  dramatic.
This combined with the lighting made the scene more dramatic and sad.
This aspect can be compared to the sound effects of gunshots in ‘The Fate of the Furious.
SEXXXY 2
Low angle shots were also used very well in the film.
For example after Sgt. Boorman pushed Geel Piet to the ground there is a low angle shot of him.
This makes the audience feel worried that Sgt. Boorman is going to hurt Geel Piet again.
The purpose of this was to show that Sgt. Boorman had all the power in that scene
This combined with the sound effects in the scene made it more interesting to watch.
This can be juxtaposed to when the avengers were standing over Loki showing they had more power and that Loki was defeated in ‘The Avengers’.
SEXXXY 3
Symbolism was a very important technique in this film.
For example the bracelet P.K’s mother gave him symbolises love.
This shows the audience the love between them.
The director’s purpose was to show us the love his mother had for him and how much she would miss him.

This can be compared to the fire that symbolised hope in “Lord of the Flies’.
SEXXXY 4
The music in ‘The Power of One’ made it more dramatic.
For example when the Afrikaners took P.K there was dramatic music playing.
This makes the audience feel worried for what might happen to P.K.
The purpose of this was to make the scene more powerful.
This combined with the lighting made the scene dramatic and powerful.
This reminds me of when creepy music plays in ‘Scream’ as the killer is getting nearer.
